Pink, purple and blue cocktails – a nod to the opalescent bricks that will soon wrap The Kubrick – set the tone for the evening, accompanied by mouthwatering canapés and a handful of speeches.
Guests also had the opportunity to head through to the sales suite to explore the material palette firsthand, taking in the porcelain tiles, custom carpets and finely detailed tapware selected by interior designer Rachel McLean for the inside of the building.
Ockham’s Mark Todd was particularly excited for people to see the handmade bricks from Italy’s Sant’Anselmo.
“The bricks are triple fired – once as the clay, then the colour is fired onto the brick and a lustre glaze is done on the third firing. It’s a bit like mother of pearl and reflects like oil on water, so you get these beautiful pinky blue soap bubbles of reflection that tie the colours together as you walk towards the building. You really need to see them yourself to appreciate how lovely they are.”
In his speech, Mark talked to the crowd about The Kubrick’s singular site. “In 17 years of property development, this is the best site I’ve been involved with,” enthuses Mark.
“It’s in the centre of the city but it’s right beside the Harry Dansey reserve and surrounded by mature trees. I was almost going to call the building New Titirangi because all you can see in every direction is trees, no matter what apartment you’re in.”
Mark’s proud of the number of floorplan options available at The Kubrick.
“We’ve managed to do some really creative, flexible floorplans and there’s a lot of choice in the building. We wanted to give people to opportunity to find their perfect home. The apartments range from 60sqm as the smallest right through to nearly 300sqm, with many around 160sqm.”
He also talked guests through the more than 600sqm of shared spaces – including a residents’ lounge with a gourmet kitchen, drinks suite, sauna, ice bath, heated plunge pool, air-conditioned gym, a dedicated work-from-home space and, of course, a private cinema – a fitting tribute to visionary director Stanley Kubrick.
“Stanley Kubrick’s films were boldly avant-garde, always reaching toward the future, and his attention to detail was the stuff of legend. This building carries that same spirit – a commitment to precision, an obsession with detail, and a daring confidence in colour."
