Ockham Residential have proudly sponsored Auckland City FC since 2021.

Ockham is delighted to sponsor Auckland City FC, an awesome amateur side based in Kiwitea Street, Sandringham. Dubbed the Navy Blues, the team garnered global headlines when they competed in this year’s FIFA World Cup.

Initially, the stories were about bruising defeats they endured at the hands (or feet) of the world’s best – German giants Bayern Munich crushed them 10-0 – however, as the only non-profesional team in the tournament, they wowed critics and fans with a Cinderella ending – an astounding 1-1 draw against Argentina’s Boca Juniors on 24 June, 2025.

Ockham founder Mark Todd was at the game when Auckland City FC defender Christian Gray levelled the score against Argentina. “It was the biggest upset of the whole tournament!” crows Mark. “The crowd was in utter disbelief. No one thought Auckland FC stood a chance a of drawing against a powerhouse team like Boca Juniors. It just shows you what hope, belief, talent and a bit of luck can achieve.”

It was CEO William Deihl who first decided to partner with Auckland City FC in 2021. “Ockham and Auckland City are a match made in heaven,” he says. “There’s a real synergy between the club and our company. Like the team, we believe in Auckland, we’re passionate, driven and committed to being high achievers. The foundation of Ockham is family and community, which is very much at the heart of the club. We’re incredibly proud to have been behind them for the last four years.”

The draw against Boca Juniors isn’t the only outsize achievement the team has pulled off since the club was founded in 2004. They won seven consecutive OFC Champions League titles between 2011 and 2017, resulting in Auckland becoming a regular fixture at the FIFA World Cup.

Most notably, the team finished third in the 2014 FIFA World Club Cup, held in Morocco – their bronze medal the greatest achievement by far by a New Zealand team in the world’s global sport.
