The Ockham New Zealand Book Awards aka The Ockhams are to be livestreamed to the nation on Tuesday 12 May, the original date set down for the awards ceremony in Auckland.

The New Zealand Book Awards Trust have gone the extra mile – and well beyond – to ensure Aotearoa's writers and poets are celebrated, their contribution to the national conversation recognised. "As the old adage goes, 'the show must go on,'" says Trust chair, Nicola Legat. "We hope that by making our announcements'‘virtual' we will reach an audience of thousands on the evening of 12 May."

A slick, tight virtual ceremony has been planned, fronted by popular MC for the past two years, broadcaster and te reo Māori advocate Stacey Morrison. It will be live and free for all on several channels. These:

📖 The Ockham New Zealand Book Awards YouTube channel. Tune into The Ockhams YouTube channel bit.ly/ONZBA-YouTube – from 6pm to catch the announcment of MitoQ Best First Book awards. Then at 7pm, the main event: the General Non-Fiction Award, the Mary and Peter Biggs Award for Poetry, the Illustrated Non-Fiction Award and, finally, the $55,000 Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction.

📖 The Ockham New Zealand Book Awards Facebook page will also livestream the Awards. Go to bit.ly/ONZBA.

📖 Finally – and we're still buzzing about this – the main event will livestream on nzherald.co.nz from 7pm. Brilliant for The Ockhams and for our writers to be exposed to the Royal New Zealand Herald's audience of two million. Go to bit.ly/ONZBA-Ceremony.
